Leucate basin

Renowned for its high quality, this seaside resort is the entrance of the Regional nature park of the Narbonnaise in the Mediterranean region. This former island is now a peninsula in the middle of a both rich and fragile marine environment composed of 16 km of coast, 31km of ponds, channels, islands and basins.

Located between the eastern Corbières Mountains, the Canigou Mountain, and the Mediterranean Sea, Port Leucate landscape is both diversified and preserved. Among this idyllic environment, the seaside resort has been created to share the ancestral culture with tourist and enable every body to enjoy this natural site. You can visit Leucate village and its castle, church and alleyways, you can walk in the vineyard bordered by wonderful almond trees or simply enjoy Port Leucate, its marina and its beach with golden sand.

Port Leucate has strong wine-growing and fishing traditions, coming both from the sea and the earth. You can fish in the sea, or to change, fish sea basses or sea breams in the ponds, near the oyster farms. And if you just want to savour fresh local products like oysters, mussels, or shells, the local oyster-farmers will be pleased to welcome you on board or in the oyster-farms and show you their products.

In the wake of Greek and Phoenicians sailors, come and discover the amazing white cliff which is the origin of the name of Leucate, stop and call at Port Leucate in this wonderful natural site between sea and ponds.
