Description of Port Adhoc Soubise
The activity of our Soubise marina depends on tides like most of marinas of the Atlantic coast. However, thanks to our location, we can launch your boat when you want as long as the tide coefficient is under 75: above this coefficient, your boat can be launched 3 hours before and after the high water.

Our dry stack marina is situated on the banks of the Charente river, only15 minutes away from the sea by boat.
The Charente estuary leads up to the island of Madame, the smallest island in the region. We assume that this name comes from Anne de Rohan de Soubise, Louis XIV’s mistress, or Madame de Saintes, the abbess of the Saintes abbey.This island was also called l’île Citoyenne (citizen island) during the French revolution.
In the north, you can find the island of Ré and its 100 km coasts, the sand or peddle beaches, the marshlands and the cliffs. This island is completely flat; it is 30 km long and 5 km wide. This place is very appreciated by tourists:the climate is generally sunny and lots of monuments can be visited, like Le Fort de la Prée, La Redoute, l’Abbaye des Chateliers, les phare des baleines, and the main port called Saint-Martin which was fortified in 1681.
You will also discover the island of Aix, located between the island of Oléron and the island of Ré. This small crescent is only three kilometers long and 600 meters wide, covered by sand beaches, creeks and rocks. History has also strongly marked this small island with religious and military events. You can visit the Fort Liébot, the fortification built by Vauban and Ferry, and the Saint Martin church.
Not far from the island of Aix is Fort Boyard. This very famous fortress was built in 1801 to protect the coast, especially the arsenal of Rochefort. It was also briefly used as a jail in the 1870’s, before being abandoned. Recently, it has been restored to be used for TV shows and games.
In the south, you will find the island of Oléron, the second biggest French island after Corsica (not counting French overseas possessions). Like the island of Ré, Oléron is a flat island with a wild landscape, covered with large forests, marshes and numerous beaches. These beaches are certified by the blue label, assuring the good quality of sea water. Some natural reserves such as « Le Marais aux Oiseaux » and « Le Port des Salines » are open to the public all year round. You can discover the wonderful local fauna and flora and admire the local natural treasures thanks to the sunny weather and warm climate. On the west coast of this island, you can visit the Cotinière, one of the most important fishing harbours in the region. You will also enjoy the discovery of the oyster farms all over the island, which were salt marshes before being transformed in oyster marshes in the 19th century.
