Jachthaven Strijensas joins the Port Adhoc network!

Recently integrated into the Port Adhoc network, Strijensas Marina is now one of eight Dutch marinas within our group. Anouk and Rob Verhoog, the former owners of Jachthaven Strijensas, kindly answered a few of our questions to help us introduce this new Dutch port.

In May 2025, the European group Port Adhoc officially acquired the Dutch marina Jachthaven Strijensas.

This acquisition brings the number of Port Adhoc marinas in the Netherlands to eight: alongside Marina Muiderzand, Jachthaven Naarden, Jachthaven Bruinisse, Marina Cape Helius, Lelystad Haven, Deko Marina Lelystad, and Flevo Marina Lelystad, Jachthaven Strijensas adds to an already well-established network of marina infrastructure in the country.

Anouk and Rob Verhoog, thank you for taking the time to speak with us. To begin, could you tell us a bit about Jachthaven Strijensas?

Jachthaven Strijensas has been around for over 50 years. It is an attractive marina located in South Holland, right in the heart of natural reserves and a superb sailing area. Situated on the Hollands Diep, Strijensas Marina also offers immediate access to the Haringvliet, the Zeeland Delta, and the Biesbosch.

Jachthaven Strijensas offers mooring and boat storage, as well as a full range of services, including launching, winter storage, and maintenance for all types of vessels. In 2005, a major project to restructure the harbour areas took place, modernising the entire marina.

Thanks to the new layout of the spaces, Jachthaven Strijensas now has much more room to accommodate motorboat and sailing boat enthusiasts. Previously, an embankment divided the harbour into two separate areas: owners whose boats were moored on this embankment did not have easy access to the harbour office, the facilities, and the shop. Today, access to all the port’s services is straightforward for all users.

What has your experience been at Jachthaven Strijensas?

In total, we were managers and owners of Strijensas Marina for seven years. We thoroughly enjoyed working there!

The port environment is very pleasant, and the working atmosphere was exceptional: together with three other staff members, we formed a small team working hard to ensure that all operations ran smoothly:

  • Gijs-Jan Viskil has been working at the port for seven years and is very experienced—especially in lifting and handling boats. He regularly operates the port’s travel lift, as well as the trailer dedicated to dry storage of boats. On a daily basis, he pays close attention to the boaters and always makes sure, with a sense of humour, that the port rules are respected.
  • Christiaan Stok is an expert in vessel maintenance and joined the port team in October 2024. Very attentive, he advises boaters on the aesthetic upkeep of their vessels.
  • Since April 2025, Lilian Westenbrink has been responsible for front desk and telephone reception, allocation of mooring and storage spaces, patrols around the port, and the shop. Cheerful, friendly, and sociable, she is a great help in the overall organisation of the marina.

We particularly enjoyed enhancing the customer experience at Jachthaven Strijensas:

We committed ourselves to continuously improving the facilities—with maintenance work, expansions, and modernisation of certain equipment—and we always made sure to be welcoming and helpful.

Interactions between the port team and boaters always took place in a relaxed atmosphere, with genuine interest in their activities. Regularly, during conversations, we would discuss the owners’ sailing plans as well as their maintenance tasks!

Several times a day, the team would move around the marina on foot or by bike: partly to ensure the rules were being followed, but also for the pleasure of connecting with the customers. Of course, we always ensured that their questions and comments were handled with care.

With the acquisition of Jachthaven Strijensas by Port Adhoc, we will remain in our roles for a while longer to ensure a smooth transition of the port’s management. As for Gijs-Jan, Christiaan, and Lilian, they are expected to retain their positions.

Now that Jachthaven Strijensas is part of the Port Adhoc group, what will this mean for the marina’s boaters?

With the acquisition by Port Adhoc, boaters with existing contracts will, of course, retain their mooring or storage spots under the agreed terms.

Each of the 15 marinas in the Port Adhoc group places great emphasis on site maintenance. The group regularly invests to ensure all infrastructure remains in excellent condition.

In addition, boaters will be able to benefit from member advantages, allowing them to enjoy special rates or free access to other ports within the network. For example, Marina Cape Helius —on the Haringvliet—and Jachthaven Bruinisse—on the Grevelingen Lake—are two ports near Jachthaven Strijensas that can be very pleasant to visit!

What is the marina’s capacity, and what types of boats are accommodated?

Located in South Holland, Jachthaven Strijensas offers 650 berths afloat and ashore, distributed as follows:

  • 370 berths afloat
  • 250 berths ashore, on cradles
  • Indoor space with capacity for around 30 vessels in a shed

Jachthaven Strijensas accommodates both motorboats and sailing yachts with hull lengths ranging from 6 to 18 metres. Currently, 60% of our boaters are motorboat owners and 40% are sailing yacht owners.

What handling equipment is available at Jachthaven Strijensas?

Strijensas Marina is equipped with a 18-tonne travel lift, a transport trolley, and a crane for stepping and unstepping masts. Once removed, masts can be stored on dedicated racks within the marina.

In your opinion, what are the key strengths of Jachthaven Strijensas? Why would you recommend it to boaters?

First and foremost, Jachthaven Strijensas enjoys a strategic location, ideal for those seeking a stopover or a longer-term berth or storage option.

The facilities are very comfortable and available at reasonable rates. Showers and toilets, water, electricity, and Wi-Fi are all included in the service packages. The welcome from our team—characterised by friendliness, humour, and hospitality—has always been highly appreciated.

When it comes to winter storage and boat maintenance, Strijensas Marina has built an excellent reputation. This is thanks to the quality of the handling equipment available to boaters, and the rigour and safety with which operations are carried out.

Owners can also rent professional tools through the marina team to carry out their own work.

What facilities and services are available for maintenance, repairs, and winter storage?

The marina is a trusted name among motorboat and sailing yacht owners in South Holland and North Brabant. It offers convenient options for winter storage, whether outside on cradles or indoors in a shed.

Since October 2024, Jachthaven Strijensas has operated its own in-house boat maintenance service. Depending on their needs, boaters can benefit from:

  • Hull cleaning and antifouling
  • Polishing and buffing of the hull and/or superstructure
  • Gelcoat repairs

The expertise of the marina team is complemented by that of local specialist partners who offer a wide range of technical services: engine maintenance, sailmaking or modifications, sprayhood cleaning, carpentry work, rigging checks or replacements, and more.

These professionals regularly work on both motorboats and yachts directly at the marina.

Finally, what other services are offered at the heart of Jachthaven Strijensas?

A restaurant, a nautical shop, and a library… In addition to handling, winter storage, repairs, and boat storage, several areas have been designed to make Strijensas Marina pleasant and comfortable, enhancing the overall experience for boaters.

To ensure that heading out to sea is as easy as possible, users will also find, within the marina grounds, a diesel fuel station and a sales point for onboard gas bottles.
