Pieter Krikken is originally from the Netherlands. He has always been a yachtsman:

" I started sailing when my family had a summer house on a lake in the Netherlands. I've had boats for most of my life!

Pieter now lives in the South of France, which he joined over twenty years ago. He explains:

" Alongside my work in sports marketing, I'm also a qualified fishing instructor-guide. I'm really passionate about fishing and boating...".

The proud owner of a Boston Whaler Outrage 240, " a fishing-oriented Open hull equipped for offshore sailing, safe and very seaworthy ", Pieter chose to moor his unit in Port Leucate. Since his purchase in 2017, his boat, named Phantom, has been stored year-round on racks in Leucate's dry port.

From the port, access to a wide range of water bodies

Today, the navigator says he enjoys the sailing area around Port Leucate, along the Vermeille coast and as far as Spain: " I sail most of the time in semi-offshore areas. As I' m a keen fisherman, I try to vary my fishing spots, depending on the weather and the fish I'm after ".

Pieter's choice of port location also offers him the advantage of being able to exploreother sailing areas very easily whenever he feels like it:

"For example, I sometimes change environment and go sailing with Phantom on theEtang de Leucate, especially when the Mediterranean is too rough. It's a different kind of sailing, but just as much fun!

Port Leucate, a Mediterranean port for year-round sailing

With his boat in the dry port of Leucate, Pieter can enjoy sailing on the sea or in ponds all year round:

" I go out most often between April and October, but I also go out by boat from time to time during the winter. I can quickly reach the port of Leucate from home, and thanks to the port staff, it's always easy to organize my outings. I often decide at the last minute.

He explains that he mainly goes on day trips, often dedicated to his passion for fishing, with friends or family. Each time, the crew enjoys the sea and, sometimes, a barbecue prepared on board.

" Generally, we leave the dry port of Leucate at around 6 or 7 in the morning, and return at the end of the day, around 5pm. These are long days, which allow us to take full advantage of the pleasures of sailing!

Professionalism as a key strength of the dry port

" What I really like about Port Adhoc Leucate is the responsiveness of the team. The dry dock staff are all very professional and patient, even when there are several boats out at the same time.

Pieter also explains that he has his ship's engines serviced every year, thanks to the local presence of AB Yachting: "It's great to be able to tinker with and clean your unit in this Mediterranean dry port.

Finally, Pieter concludes, " In Port Leucate, I know my boat is really safe. In the Mediterranean, having my boat in a dry port also means I have less maintenance to do. And, above all, I benefit from the services of a professional team, always ready to listen to boaters. "

Port Leucate: your dry port in the Mediterranean

Pieter rents a berth in the dry port of Port Leucate, halfway between the Etang de Leucate and the Mediterranean Sea. There are 300 berths like his at Port Adhoc Leucate!

Boats are stored on racks in a secure, supervised environment, for a few weeks, a few months, or up to twelve months a year. At the Port Leucate Mediterranean dry port, yachtsmen can be sure of launching their boats every day of the year, in no time at all.

Within the harbor, owners of each boat benefit from a technical area, private parking and free, unlimited access to the WiFi network. As Pieter explains, there are plenty of professionals on hand to meet all yachtsmen's needs:

For over thirty years, Accastillage Diffusion in Port Leucate, for example, has been assisting boat owners with the purchase, maintenance and refit of marine hardware. There's also AB Yachting, as Pieter mentioned, which specializes not only in buying and selling boats, but also in boat maintenance. Boaters can also take advantage of the cleaning and polishing services offered by Clean Yacht 66, and have marine maintenance work carried out by the professional Technique Plaisance.

Port Leucate also benefits from the presence of Seenav, a company specializing in the sale and management of marine electronics, and La Voilerie, where yachtsmen can have sail elements adapted to their craft created or repaired. In the Mediterranean dry port, sailors can also call on the Carina Ulixis shipyard, which also specializes in long-term catamaran rentals.

Finally, when it comes to leisure activities, users of the Mediterranean dry port of Port Leucate are not to be outdone either: with Leucate Plongée, Leucate Jet-Ski, Aloha Jet and Leucate Pêche, yachtsmen can easily discover the local flora and fauna, try their hand at water sports, enjoy incredible fishing sessions... In short, enjoy all the pleasures offered by the sailing area.
