Port Barcarèsdeconfinement measures & resumption of navigation

Dear boaters,

Following the latest government announcements, we are pleased to confirm that you will be able to navigate again as of Monday, May 11.

Nevertheless, the entrance channel is still silted up following the storm Gloria. The draught does not exceed 50 cm in some places. The AVURNAV that was issued on the site of the Maritime Prefecture is still in force. The information concerning the current dredging operation can be found at the bottom of this article.

We are doing our best to open the entrance pass to navigation in the next few days.

Resumption of navigation & sea travel

The Préfecture Maritime de Méditerranée published on May 7, 2020 the new decree n° 062/2020 specifying the navigation conditions from May 11. Here are the important information to remember:

1 - Period of application
The decree is valid from May 11 to June 1, 2020

2 - Navigation limit
Navigation is authorized within a perimeter of 54NM from your home port. Port-Barcarès will provide you with a certificate of attachment on request.

As the borders with Spain remain closed for the moment, this perimeter allows you to sail south to Port Bou, and north to Port de Frontignan, from your home port: Port-Barcarès.

Warning: stopovers in a port and landings on land must be done in compliance with land measures, and therefore within a radius of 100 km from your home. As the land and sea isochrones are not necessarily identical, we invite you to be vigilant and to make sure that you respect the regulations in force.

3 - Crew
The number of passengers on board is limited to 10 people maximum.

Travelling on land

1 - In France
From May 11, it will be possible to go out freely in the street without a certificate. However, a limit of 100 km as the crow flies around the place of residence is imposed. A proof of residence will be necessary to circulate in this radius.

Beyond this perimeter, trips must be made for the sole reason of a compelling need (assistance to a vulnerable person, death of a relative, etc.) and be accompanied by a certificate. We are not authorized to provide you with a travel certificate, so we leave this point to your discretion.

2 - Abroad
Restrictions at France's borders with European countries (European Union, SHENGEN area, United Kingdom) will be extended until at least June 15

In order to cross borders with neighboring European countries, certain exemptions will be made possible, such as those concerning the custody, visit or schooling of a child or a compelling economic reason. Travelling to visit one's pleasure boat will not be considered as compelling by the authorities.

The borders with non-European countries will remain closed until further notice.

Information on the operation of the port

In order to ensure your safety and that of our agents, we have put in place a number of measures in accordance with the recommendations of the health authorities:

For your safety and that of our agents, access to the captaincy is limited to a maximum of one person. Wearing a mask is mandatory.

Access to the technical area office (algeco) is strictly forbidden. Only professionals and persons authorized by a handling voucher issued by the harbour master's office are allowed.
As a reminder, the opening hours of the technical area are from 8:30 am to 12:00 am and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm from Monday to Saturday included.

The Tourette North sanitary blocks will be closed and boaters are invited to use those of the harbour master's office or the Tourette South.

On pontoons, the rules of physical distancing must be applied. We invite you to adopt the following measures:

  • At the start, I leave the dock as soon as possible after boarding to free up space
  • ON ARRIVAL, I prepare my equipment beforehand in order to disembark as soon as possible after mooring

In addition, we remind you that gatherings of more than 10 people are prohibited.

Dredging operations

As we indicated in our last communication, the dredging project has started.
The operation started at the beginning of the week with the installation phase of the work site, notably on the beach located north of the entrance channel. The phase of suction of the sand blocking the entrance channel should begin on Monday, May 11, except in unfavorable weather conditions. It will therefore not be possible to use the entrance channel of the port on that date.

The company that has been mandated for the dredging operation will first create a channel to allow the circulation of boats . This channel will be marked out by the port agents. We will keep you informed through the usual channels as soon as the date of completion of the latter is known.

We thank you for your patience, and we hope to see you soon in your port,
The Port-Barcarès team
