The essentials for a boat trip in the Mediterranean

Thanks to the relatively mild Mediterranean climate, it's possible to sail on Mediterranean waters all year round. From May to October especially, conditions are ideal for sailing. Tramontane, Libeccio, Lombardy, Levant, Sirocco, Meltem... Winds change from an region to another and, depending on the sailing area, it's important to be aware of them. The Mistral, for instance, is often appreciated by sailors, but it can gets up very suddenly and be violent. Better watch out!

Renowned for being difficult sometimes, the Mediterranean Sea and its waves can surprise even the most seasoned crews. As with sailing in any part of the world, we recommend that you prepare your cruise carefully, check the weather forecast before departure, and make sure you stay well-informed.

Last but not least, find out about local regulations in the sailing area you'll be visiting! Some areas require you to have a specific navigation permit, and you may need to book or buy an entrance ticket to be allowed to sail in a natural park, for instance.
